Fall Painting Party

When the weather cools down, come help FOURC and the Masons paint the exterior of the Masonic Hall located at 89 S. Pleasant Street in Oberlin. FOURC recently became a tenant in the historic building on June 20, 2008. The Elyria Sherwin-Williams Store has already pledged 20 gallons of historic off-white paint to assist with this project.

Freedom Walk

FOURC will coordinate another Freedom Walk to Wellington to raise awareness about John Price and the Oberlin-Wellington Rescue. The Walk will take place Saturday, September 13, 2008 beginning at 6AM. Rescuers will receive a ride back to Oberlin and the Walk will be over by 11AM.

To commemorate the 150-year anniversary of the Oberlin-Wellington Rescue of John Price, the walk will be limited to no more than 37 participants. Participants will be assigned a rescuer's name and identity. Rescuers will be asked to participate in a special debrief session the day following The Walk. Reflection Session: Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 3PM - 5PM (includes fellowship and a light meal). For more information call Ade at 440.774.4327

This event is a fundraiser. All proceeds will go to support FOURCs purchase of the Logan House to be run as a bed and breakfast in town.

FOURC Has a New Office!

FOURC has moved into the historic Masonic building on 89 S. Pleasant St. Our office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM to 2PM.

Who We Are

Friends of Oberlin Underground Railroad Center (FOURC), a 501(c) 3 nonprofit charitable organization, formed in 1999 to organize and structure grassroots participation in the development and operations of the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center. The group further exists to provide education and community development initiatives that benefit historical development of Oberlin's African-American community.

Vision Statement

FOURC envisions African-Americans and their allies working together to reclaim, retain, document, and to promote a local, county, and regional Underground Railroad history that charts a future for economic, racial and social justice in communities where we live.

Mission Statement

The purpose of this organization is to solicit, acquire, hold, manage, funds, real property, artifacts, and other assets and resources in support of the development and operations of the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center. Gasholder Building Our focus is on education initiatives that preserve local histories, and promote building social and economic capital that benefits Oberlin’s low and moderate-income neighborhood.
